Eastern Turkey

We flew from Istanbul to Eastern party of Turkey to a town called Kars which is on the Armenian border. The east is very, very different from the west.  It is quite conservative and clearly not as well off as the west . Women wear full head coverings. Only their faces are showing.  Agriculture is the main industry here -it might be the only.
Kars is high up on the steppes of Turkey. We were at an elevation of 2200m. The temperature dropped to 5C at night which was most unfortunate as I only had clothing for 40C.
The coolest thing was the nomads.  They come up to the steppes on the summer to graze their cattle  And they follow the rains for the best pasture.  By fluke they were near the highway when we drove by.
